Do you have information on the Halen Family? Specific person is MARY ELIZABETH HALEN (b. abt. 1754) and her ancestors. She married Henry Harry Hensley abt. 1770. If so, confirm your hours of operation in December? Thanks. Richard Blocker

I am working on our family history and would like to find (if exists) a document that indicates a place of birth for a Margaret Danner. Margaret is the daughter of my Great-great-great Grandfather, James Cummings. I have found a 1850 Census Record that shows she was living with her son, James Danner & family in Augusta, Augusta County, Virginia. A place of birth is noted on this document but is not readable on FamilySearch.com or MyHeritage.com. She passed in 1856 and is buried in Delaware County, Indiana next to her husband, Samuel Danner. They were married in Mason County, Kentucky in 1796. Do you have a death record of her there in Virginia or can you read the place of birth on the 1850 Census record ? Family letters indicate she was born in Virginia. 'Someone' has modified her Find A Grave bio with a birth location of Scotland. However, I have asked and so far no one can confirm with documentation that she was born in Scotland. Her father, James Cummings, is per family letters, to have also been born in Virginia abt. 1750-1755. We have hit a wall with him also because apparently there were no birth records recorded during that time period. We can find no death record for him where he passed in Ohio. Thank you in advance for any information. Regards, Nancy Minter

Good afternoon, I’m interested in paying for someone to help me research my maternal lineage, which I believe goes back to Augusta, Virginia. My 5th great grandfather was Thomas Dove, who married Anna Dorothy. There is a Thomas Dove mentioned in the Chronologicles of the Scots-Irish settlement and I’m hoping to prove or disprove that this is my ancestor. Look forward to talking! My email is Alexandermoore42@yahoo.com.

Will your organization be publishing an Augusta County Death Records book for those death after June 1917 to 1920? I have been looking for my great grandmother's burial place for over 30 years. Just recently, I found her infant son in your publication Augusta County Death Records (ending in June 1917). I am looking for Bessie (Hall) Hall died after 1917 but before 1920. Her husband was Robert. Her mother was Nancy J. Hall Campbell who I am also looking for in the same time period. Thank you for your assistance. Linda Hasting

I’m going to be in Lyndhurst next week visiting my brother and would like to check out your resources. I’m looking for information on the Zachary family who lived in culpepper, orange, Madison and Augusta counties from 1730’s until moving to Kentucky in 1810. I suspect they didn’t move that many times but the counties changed around them. Thank you in advance for your help.

I  am requesting assistance of a branch of my family tree that was from  Augusta County, Virginia.  After many years of dead ends my myself and  my grandfather (who has since passed).  I believe it's time to seek  professional help.  The only information I have on this line are census  records.  I am a member of Ancestry.com, however there isn't much of  this missing link. William McNutt (4X G-grandfather) b. 1820 in Virginia, listed in the  1850 & 1860 census for Augusta County.  No info on death or resting  place.  He married first Margaret (Stover), second Margaret (Stephens)  or (Stevens) No info on death or resting place for either wife's.   William & Margaret (Stephens) McNutt had son, James McNutt (3X  G-grandfather) who moved to Vinton County, Ohio sometime is the 1870's. William's parents are John McNutt b. 1789 in Virginia, listed in the  1850 & 1860 census for Augusta County.  No info on death or resting  place.  Elizabeth (Robinson) McNutt b. 1789 in Virginia or Pennsylvania.   No info on death or resting place.   John is my dead end.  There are some other McNutt's in the area in the  census records, however I can't assume they are related and not sure  how.  I'm really trying to find John's parents.  I can send what info i  have to help in any way.  I look forward in hearing from a pro that can  help.  Thank you for your time.   T. Good  afternoon!  I reside in Alberta, Canada.  I am doing research on my  Ervin/Erwin paternal genealogy & have run into a dead end.  I would  appreciate any help or guidance you can offer.  I have traced my 5x  great grandfather, Benjamin Erwin, to Lewisburg, Greenbrier, WV.  I have  a copy of his will dated April 23, 1846.  I believe he was born in  Augusta County (VA) WVA in 1765 to Charles Ervin, wife Catherine, no  maiden name.  He married Margaret Wallace Sept 26, 1793.  His son John  Ervin, born 1801 is my 4x great grandfather who migrated to Iowa in the  mid 1800's.  I cannot locate any actual documentation re Benjamin's  birth or death & nothing on his parents.  I very much want to  confirm his parents if possible.  I believe they were both born in  Pocahantas VA, approx 1740.  Charles's parents likely immigrated from  Ulster, Northern Ireland.  If someone could call me to discuss I would  be very grateful!  Jill Hunter. 403-580-5025.  I would love to visit  this part of VA but in the meantime would be willing to discuss paying  for research.

I have visited your area for Parry family history. Since my son-in-law has been transferred to other Air Force Base have not had chance to visit again. I had obtained information on the Parrys and in specific Joshua Parry. My great, great grandfather is Caleb Parry and from all documents is buried in Waynesboro but I don't know which cemetery. His son is Littleton Parry and I have recently been given a photo of him and plan to send to you as soon as I an perhaps lighten up the photo. My new adventure is for William Henry Harman, Confederate officer, birth 2/17/1828-3-2-1865. He apparently died in the Battle of Waynesboro. From my research there are 2 original Harman families, Isaac (German and many, many descendants are here in Phelps County) and George who source said came from England. My cousin would like to establish if William Henry Harman is connected to Isaac's line here in Missouri. Harman can be Harman or Harmon. Here's Mo line, Isaac, Soleman, Job, Samuel Sr. Grace Harmon said great grandmother of relative wanting Harmon information. This information is in Crawford County Heritage book and some of the line may be in slight error but who knows. William Henry Harman's father is listed as Lewis Harmon 1794-1840. Thank you and let me know fees etc. I will send my dues soon since I think they have expired. Carolyn Parry Tilford, 573-465-1549

I’ve been on Ancestry.com and a few other sites with little luck. Is there anything else I can be looking for online to help me before I get there? I’m going to Buchcan , Lyndhusrt and Botetot. I  am a genealogist from Minnesota interested in researching my Croy,  Holmes, and Huston families from 1760 - 1840.  I have census and deed  records that record these families having land in your area c. 1830.   What resources are available at your library that would aid in finding  early vital and tax records for citizens from that time period?  Where  may I view your genealogy resources at your website?  I appreciate any other locations or people you would recommend  contacting in my June visit.  Thank you for your assistance.   Cordially,  Carla Croy Rochester, MN

Hi, I was in Staunton over the weekend and got your organization's location from the Visitor's Center. Several decades ago I acquired a daguerreotype from a Lee/Opie family source. With the ease of internet use, I now believe that daguerreotype, ca. 1854, to be Michael Garber Harman, later Colonel of the 52nd Virginia. Would you have any photographs of him? Many thanks.

I am looking for a possible connection between the Cupp and Steel(e) families in Augusta County, VA around 1850-1860, resulting in the displacement of two children who were adopted by two Cupp families in east Tennessee. One of the children, William Porter Steel, was my great-grandfather and genetic evidence (Y chromosome) links me back to Augustine Steele who died about 1790 in Amherst County. I know that there were/are lots of Cupps living in the Staunton, VA area, hence this request. Thank you.

My niece and I are planning to come to Fishersville to research our family lines who were in the area in the 1700s. We hope to be in Lewisburg on Tuesday, July 23rd and hope to do Greenbrier, Augusta and Rockingham Counties on this trip. We must head back to TN on Saturday July 27. I notice that you are not open at the library on Wednesday. If that has changed, it would be helpful to know. The lines we are interested in are Dunbar, Osborne, Claypoole, Chilton, Anderson, and Shrewsbury. My mother was a Dunbar. Any advice you can give to me for our trip and the best sources for finding information will be greatly appreciated. Libby Nicholson

I am trying to obtain a picture of a man from Stuarts Draft in Augusta County. His name is Kenneth Ray Cohron, born March 8, 1914. Mr. Cohron was a member of the 712th Tank Battalion in WWII. He was killed in battle at Normandy on July 10 or 11, 1944. I am working with a group of young men in Normandy who have erected a monument to the men who lost their lives while trying to liberate the village where the men in the group live (we know of each other because my father also served in the 712th). In writing the history of this battle, as well as other articles about it, they are trying to get pictures of those soldiers who lost their lives. I offered to help them since I'm in the U.S. Is there any possibility that the genealogical society would have a picture of Mr. Cohron? He was the son of Elmer Cohron and Sara Elizabeth "Lizzie" Coiner. I'm sure that an obituary would have run in the local newspaper when he died; would it have had a picture with it? Thank you so much for any assistance you might offer with the remembrance of this soldier. Regards, Kaye Ackermann Charlotte, NC

I am researching my paternal great grandfather William Joshua Harrison Stover. He was born in 1844 in Augusta County, Virginia, the son of Samuel David Stover and Catherine Hart. They lived in the Mount Sidney area. William served in the Civil War and his service record says he died January 29, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and burial at Thornrose Cemetery. I find no records to prove this assertion nor can I find anything on the internet sites showing his burial at Thornrose. William reportedly married a woman from the area by the name of Eliza Warrick/Wyrick (?) in Washington, D.C. I have hopes that someone can shed some light on this brick wall. Any information regarding the family would be deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I am wondering if someone could research Joseph Alexander possible spouse of Margaret Tate Alexander. They may have come to Augusta county Virginia from Cumberland County Pennsylvania with her parents, Samuel “rock” Tate and wife Elizabeth. Joseph Alexander’s father may be Thomas Alexander of Carlisle Cumberland County Pennsylvania. Thomas Alexander May be related to Archibald Alexander as my family legend has it.

Joseph Alexander and Margaret Tate May have a marriage date of August 24 1773 Cumberland County Pennsylvania.

Thank you
