Meetings

 

The Society usually meets 1:00 to 3:00 PM on the third Wednesday of each month at the Augusta County Public Library, lower level meeting room, 1759 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville VA.  Everyone is welcome, membership is not required. The annual picnic is held in July.  The November meeting is our luncheon social.  The Annual membership meeting is held in October.

March Classes for Beginners in Genealogy Research

 In conjunction with the Augusta County Library we will be presenting our annual "Beginner's Genealogy Workshop" for the first three Saturdays in March. Each workshop will be held at the Fishersville Library in the Program Room (in the Children's Department) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Led by ACGS members including: JoAnn Pendley, Sharon Sturdivant, Leslie Hall and David Riel. Members are encouraged to attend and invite family and friends who are interested in getting started on their family tree.

"A Nation of Immigrants:   An overview of immigration laws and the path to citizenship with a personal perspective" by Sylvia Butt.


Comments on the varous laws since 1790 that have included and excluded people from various nations.  I will also go through the steps to gain citizenship and my own experience with this process.  


If you are a naturalized citizen, please share your story also.

"Do you have questions about DNA testing for genealogical purposes? Are  you thinking about taking a DNA test? Would you like to know what to  expect before you spend your money? Have you taken a test and now wonder  what to do with the results? Would you like to know what type of test  should you get?" Professional Genealogist Deborah Harvey can answer your  questions. 


Our topic will be "Sharing Your Family Heirlooms"   -- preferably fabric ones -- such as quilts, crocheted items, old clothing, etc.  Please bring something you would like to share.
